National School Building Update
Phase One of the Neart Initiative ininvolved securing the purchase of the Old School Building.
We would like to once again extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the School Fundraiser. A total of €109,480.00 was raised and is being held securely in a deposit account.
SIDS has signed contracts and paid the deposit. Unfortunately, the sale process has become increasingly complex and is currently in negotiations between the owners, the Diocese of Cork and Ross Trustees, and the Department of Education. While this delay is outside of our control, please be reassured that we are continuing to work tirelessly and persistently to bring this matter to a resolution.
Schools are full of connections, hopes and dreams. In 2016, after 128 years of educating island children Sherkin Island National School closed its doors for the last time. The Community want to keep the school building as a place of connections and life for future generations. The school building will be for the community, diaspora and our friends, to use as part of The Neart Hub
This is an opportunity for people to connect with their heritage, connect with the island and connect with the future of Sherkin. Become part of the story.
