Plenty to do this summer in Sherkin, from comedy to theatre and art, fun charity run and the all important REGATTA! See also map below for other summer time activities.

July 4th – 12th   Art exhibition ‘As Above So Below’ by Mona O’Driscoll and Fran Woolf.                           Opening 2pm on 4th at Community Hall , thereafter 11am – 5pm.

July 9th              Tommy Tiernan at the Islander’s Rest.

Sunday 19th      REGATTA – rowing races and the famous tea stall at the pier, plus                                          family fun field. An annual Community Fundraiser.

Friday 31st     West Cork Fit Up Theatre Festival presents ‘How to Keep an Alien’  Community     Hall 8pm.

August

Tues 4th – 8th   Swim Week at Abbey Strand.

Friday 7th       West Cork Fit Up Theatre Festival presents ‘Nipple Jesus’ 8pm Community Hall. Written by Nick Hornby, performed by Jesse Inman.

Sat 8th             The Do Run Run – fun charity event – run, walk, crawl. 2.30pm start, pre-                         registration essential.

Sun 9 – 22nd      ‘Two Views’ art exhibition presenting Jo Ashby and Majella O’Neill-Collins.

  Opening celebration 2.30 – 4pm, thereafter open 12 – 5.30pm.

The Gateway Project

The Gateway Project may be of interest to you or somebody you know on the island.
The scheme titled “Gateway” will initially offer 150 unemployed persons in County Cork a work placement with Cork County Council for up to 22 months while retaining their current benefits and a modest top of €20.00 Those joining the scheme will work on a wide range of projects with particular emphasis on outdoor maintenance projects across the County. Participants can submit their own names.  They must be in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment for at least 2 years. The work can be either in new projects or in projects that local authorities no longer have to resources to continue.
